Музей Гастрономии

Помимо всемирно известных музеев, таких как Археологический или Музей Акрополя в Афинах существует немало музеев маленьких, но достаточно оригинальных, хотя и не обязательных. Музей Гастрономии, расположенный неподалеку от рынка Варвакиос - один из них. Это, то, что называется, два в одном. На первом этаже экспозиция, на втором ресторан. Все мы привыкли считать, что в музеях должно быть что-то связанное с искусством. Концепция этого музея состоит в том, что еда - это не только средство утоления голода, но и искусство. Цель музея заключается в сборе и репрезентации информации касающейся греческой гастрономии. Происходит эта репрезентация поэтапно. На первом этаже смотрите выставку, а на втором “усваиваете знания” о здоровой пище в местном ресторане. Вся экспозиция посвящена монастырской еде, способам ее изготовления - по большому счете монастырской жизни показанной через “призму утоления голода”, если можно так выразиться. Тут и предметы монашеского быта, связанные с процессом приготовления пищи и вина, образцы просфор и даже иконы. Все это дополнено большими фотографиями, свидетельствующими о монастырской жизни. Для маленьких групп тут проводят экскурсии на английском языке.
Что касается ресторана, то еда в стоимость билета не входит. К сожалению.

Museum of Greek Gastronomy
In Athens you will find any kind of museum. The Museum of Greek Gastronomy is among the most interesting and original ones. This museum recognizes that food is an art and not just a means to satisfy our hunger. Its aim is to collect the Greek culinary wealth, to develop interdisciplinary research programs for the study of the Greek gastronomy, to create a comprehensive and enjoyable experience for the visitors of the museum with a unique and interactive way (guiding small groups of visitors to their sites, and explaining them in their own language), to highlight and promote specific local products, to educate children and adults on nutrition issues, health and welfare with experiential way and to contribute to the development of youth activities in the field of gastronomy. The museum is housed in a beautiful neo-classical building in Athens, just a breath away from the Varvakeio market, which is the heart of the gastronomic interest in the city. Its current exhibition is titled “Monastic diet, traditional practices - timeless values”, and it introduces us to the monastic diet. Moreover, for as long as this specific exhibition lasts, in the shop of the museum you will find an interesting collection of traditional products from the monasteries in Greece, such as wine, oil, honey, herbs, traditional pasta, sweets and more. And if you feel hungry being among all these culinary delights, you can sit in the stylish cafÈ-restaurant of the museum and enjoy delicious dishes from the simple and healthy monastic cuisine, based on vegetables, greens, legumes and seafood. Yummy!
