Фрагмент бронзовой скульптуры всадника II века до н.э.

Музей Акрополя в сотрудничестве с Эфоратом подводных древностей представляют фрагмент бронзовой статуи всадника, который был выловлен рыбаками в морских водах у острова Калимнос. Эта область славится своими находками. Последние несколько лет тут было найдено множество ценных бронзовых артефактов эллинистического периода. Находка датируется II веком до н.э..

Кожаная кираса наездника, а также розочка, к которой прикреплены эпалеты имеет декоративные мотивы. Двойной ремень, украшенный ромбовидными фигурами, огибает талию. Эти ремни показывают ранг изображемого в скульптуре. Особое внимание было уделено тому, как развязываются кожаные элементы в нижней части кирасы. С их помощью всаднику было возможно занимать более комфортное положение на спине лошади.

Выставка приурочена к сорокалетию основания Эфората подводных ценностей, который был создан в 1976 году. Бронзовая скульптура будет экспонироваться в фойе Музея Акрополя с 14 октября 2016 года по 31 марта 2017 года. Для осмотра билет не требуется.

For the next few months, the Acropolis Museum will give us one more great reason to pay a visit to its premises. In cooperation with the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquites, the Museum will put on display the torso of a bronze statue that was caught in fishing nets in the marine area of the island of Kalymnos. Just for the record, this specific location has also  provided other bronze sculptures in the previous years, indicating the rich activity of the area in the ancient years. These bronze artifacts, along with the recent discovery, are original works of art from the Hellenistic period and stand out for their high artistic value.

 

The current exhibition in the Acropolis Museum coincides with the anniversary celebration of the 40 years since the founding of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities in 1976. The bronze sculpture will be displayed in the foyer of the Acropolis Museum - in this area no admission ticket is required.

Caption: Bronze statue of a rider wearing a cuirass found in the sea south of the island of Kalymnos. The rider’s leather cuirass features decorative motives at the lower part and a rosette where the strap of the epaulet was fastened. A double belt, decorated with rhombus shapes, encircles the waist. These belts indicated the rank of the depicted. Special care was given to the way the leather flaps at the bottom of the cuirass open up to allow the adjustment on the horse’s back.
