Храм Агиос Димитриос Лубодиарис
Один из самых важных византийских храмов в Афинах - это Храм Святого Димитрия Лубардиариса (Agios Dimitrios Loumpardiaris). Расположен он в самом историческом центре Афин, в районе Тиссио, неподалеку от “Тюрьмы Сократа”. Точная дата постройки храма неизвестна. Согласно одним данным, он был возведен в IX веке, согласно другим - во времена османского владычества. Это купольная базилика с цилиндрической крышей. Для постройки храма использовались части древних зданий. Например, это колонны, поддерживающие алтарь, а также несколько маленьких столбов, расположенных у входа во дворе. Название храма изначально связано с именем Святого Димитрия, однако нынешнее название Лубодиарис (в дословном переводе - канонир) получил в связи удивительным случаем. 25 октября 1658 года, за день до праздника Святого Димитрия, турецкий военачальник по имени Юсуп приказал разрушить храм из пушек, находящихся у Акрополя. Но буквально за несколько минут до предполагаемого разрушения началась гроза. Молния повредила пушки, из которых было задумано обстрелять храм. Так храм Святого Димитрия был спасен и получил свое нынешнее название.

Church of Agios Dimitrios Loumpardiaris
This temple is one of the most known in Athens, not only because of its strategic location (on the Philopappou hill, beneath the Acropolis) nor because it is beautiful and quaint, but for its great history as well. But first things first: The Church of Agios Dimitrios Loumpardiaris was built in the 9th century according to some sources, or during the Ottoman Rule according to others. It is a domed basilica, with a cylindrical roof, and for its construction they had used parts of ancient buildings such as the pillar which supports the altar and the two small pillars which are located in the entrance of the courtyard. When the temple was in 1955, several worn post-Byzantine frescoes of 1700 have been also reveled. The church was dedicated to Saint Dimitrios from the beginning, but it took the surname “Loumpardiaris” (which means Gunners) after a specific incident. On October 25, 1658, one day before the feast of Saint Dimitrios, an Ottoman official with the name Yusuf decided to bomb and destroy the temple with cannons from the Acropolis. But just before he ordered the bombing, a thunderbolt from a sudden storm broke blew the emplacement of the Acropolis and saved the church. And that is how the temple got its name and its reputation.
