Мемориал Дистимо
Путешествуя по местным дорогам, можно часто встретить памятники и мемориалы, относящиеся к новейшей истории Греции..
Один из них - мемориал Дистимо, расположенный в западной Беотии на вершине холма, близ деревни с тем же названием. Здесь 10 июня 1944 года солдаты СС, проводя операцию “возмездие”, убили почти всех жителей этой деревни. Автор мемориала - скульптор Аггелики Коровеси.

The Distomo Memorial
Traveling on the Greek National Roads, you will often encounter statues or monuments to embelish the Greek countryside. One of those is the imposing Distomo Memorial, which is perched on the hilltop Kanales, overlooking the village of Distomo, in western Boeotia. This memorial commemorates the massacre that took place in the area on June 10, 1944. That day, members of an SS unit executed the 230 villagers of Distomo in a “retaliation operation”. Among them, there were also little children and babies. Their bones are buried under this Memorial, which is work of the sculptress Aggelika Korovessi.
