Зоодохос Пиги
Храм состоит как бы из двух частей внутри огромной пещеры. На ее стенах висят иконы и среди них есть также чудотворная икона Божией Матери, которая была найдена в здесь в 1634 году. Она висит над источником святой воды. В древности эта пещера была руслом подземной реки и служила местом поклонения. Доказательством этому послужили найденный на этом месте фигурки, а также резные ниши. Археологические исследования выявили предметы датируемые эпохой палеолита. Также стоит сказать, что во времена турецкого ига в пещере располагалась тайная школа в которой дети могли учить греческий язык.
Что касается церкви, которая расположена наполовину в пещере, но все же видна снаружи – то она была построена на месте старой, XVII века постройки. Старый храм был возведен сразу после того как в пещере была найдена чудотворная икона. К сожалению он был полностью разрушен 18 мая 1918 года из-за ужасающего взрыва боеприпасов, хранившихся на военных складах неподалеку. В результате этого происшествия погибло 45 человек, а близлежащие дома и храм превратились в обломки.
Новый храм, который можно видеть в наши дни, был возведен в период 1922-1924 годов за счет жителей Аргоса. Впечатляющая колокольня появилась в 1955 году. Каждую пятницу после пасхи в этом месте происходит масштабное празднество, собирающее сотни паломников.

Church of Zoodochos Pigi
About 5 km southwest from Argos, there is Kephalari, a beautiful idyllic settlement, with lush vegetation, lovely farmhouses and quaint cafes and taverns. Jewel of the village is the historic church of Zoodochos Pigi, a fabulous Byzantine church, which is perched on the rocks of the mount Chaon, over the springs of the river Erasinos, that emanates from the bowels of the mount. The church is also known to the locals as Panagia Kephalariotissa.
Apart from the surrounding of the unique natural beauty, what will also impress you is that part of the church is built inside the cave of the mount. Lovely religious icons adorn the cave walls, and among them there is also the miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which was found inside the cave in 1634. The icon is placed on a rocky wall, over a source of holy water.
In the ancient years, the cave was the riverbed of an underground river, and as it seems it was used as a place of worship even then, since carved niches have been found in the cave walls, that probably housed votive figurines, while recent archaeological excavations brought to light objects dated in the Paleolithic period. We should also mention that during the years of the Turkish occupancy, the locals had used the cave as shelter and secret school.
The current church of Zoodochos Pigi replaces the older homonymous church that had been built in the 17th century right after the discovery of the miraculous icon. It was ruined however in May 18, 1918, by a terrifying explosion of ammunition that were kept in military depots, in the depth of the nearby grove. The explosion killed 45 people, caused severe damages to the nearby houses and turned into ashes the entire church, except the miraculous icon. The new church was built between 1922 and 1924, mainly with the contributions of immigrants from Argos, while the impressive bell tower was constructed in 1955.
The church celebrates in the first Friday after Easter, attracting hundreds of pilgrims every year.
