Пано Куфониси

Острова Куфониси - это три острова в Эгейском море, входящие в группу островов Малые Киклады и расположенные к юго-востоку от острова Наксос. Только один из островов Куфониси обитаемый - это Пано Куфониси. Площадь острова составляет какие-то 5,7 км - транспорт не нужен. Население, согласно переписи 2001 года, составляет 366 человек, которые как нетрудно догадаться занимаются рыболовством.

Впрочем, на пару человек население все же могло увеличится - в последнее время остров переживает своего рода туристический бум. И это не случайно. Экзотические пляжи с кристально чистой водой, упомянутая шаговая доступность и, главное, близость двух тоже славящихся своими пляжами необитаемых островов (до них можно доплыть на лодке) - это как раз то, что привлекает любителей “тихой экзотики”.

Ну и, конечно, древности. На островах Куфониси были найдены кикладские кладбища и другие сооружения третьего тысячелетия до нашей эры, так что для любителей истории время проведенное на Пано Куфониси тоже вряд ли будет потерянным. И еще. Места эти разбойничьи - в Средние века острова Пано и Като Куфониси были базой пиратов. Так что решение остаться будет легким. Но сначала надо все-таки приехать. 

 

Добраться до островов Куфониси можно морем: из порта Пирей туда регулярно ходит паром.

It is an island between Naxos and Amorgos and belongs to the complex of Small East Cyclades in Aegean Sea. Although it turned to a popular summer destination in the recent years, it is still the “retreat” of the Cyclades, where you can take a break from the frantic fun of other islands of the cluster, such as Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. What you will love the most here are the mild natural terrain, the welcoming shores, the exotic beaches with the crystal clear waters and the charming village with the beautiful cobbled streets and the whitewashed, Aegean style, houses. In Pano Koufonisi you don’t need a means of transportation, because the distances are small and it is easy to move from place to place on foot (or by boats to the beaches and bikes you can rent from there). The fishing boats of the island supply the taverns with abundant fish and seafood daily, so you will always find fresh and delicious food to eat during your breaks from exploring. Its sibling, Kato Koufonisi, with its beautiful beaches, is ideal for daily trips. As in every island of Cyclades, the excavations in Pano and Kato Koufonisi have brought to light Cycladic cemeteries and facilities (3rd millennium BC). Also in Pano Koufonisi, the archaeologists have been found antiquities from the Historical Times. Both islands were a base for pirates during the Middle Age.

 

How to get there: There are direct ferries from Athens 3 times a week. The local ferry Skopelitis also departs daily from Naxos and Amorgos to Koufonissia and the other islands of Small Cyclades.
