Элати

Так же как и Витса, деревня под названием Элати находится в центральной Загори. Название свое она получила от греческого слова “элата”, что означает “ель” (созвучно с русским, правда?). И как нетрудно догадаться, елей тут немало.

Тут все очень типично для Загори: красивые каменные домики с черепичными крышами, мощеные улицы и, конечно же, аутентичные кафе и таверны, в которых вам предложат именно местные кушанья. Тут же около таверны расположился местный музей фотографии. А где же ему, спрашивается, еще быть?

Таверна в Греции - это центр культурной жизни. Раз уж вы оказались здесь - зайдите. Кто знает, может быть, именно в этом экзотическом месте вы увидите лучшую выставку в вашей жизни - ведь многие гении, не доехавшие до столиц, так и остаются известными только в родной деревне.

Part of the Central Zagori, Elati is a beautiful little village, which took its name by the abundance of firs (elata in Greek) in the area. Elati is inhabited since the 16th century and it was originally a farming settlement. Because of the wealthy families who lived there, the village has been a key target of robbers who infested the region. In 1943 the village was set on fire by the Germans.  It was rebuilt, following faithfully the local architecture. The traditional stone houses, the cobblestone streets, the ornate arched bridges, the stone staircases, the water mills and the picturesque churches, all surrounded by pine, fir and oak, are some of the reasons that have made Elati an important tourist destination. That is why you will find here many hotels, traditional houses and rooms for every taste, waiting to offer you a pleasant and comfortable stay in a warm and welcoming environment. Do not forget to visit the museum of photography that operates below a traditional cafe and restaurant.

 

How to get there: By car from Athens(distance 476 km) via Α/Δ ΠΑΘΕ/E75/Α1,from Ioannina (distance 30,9 km) via National Road Ioannina-Kozani / E853 / EO20 and Provencial Road Asfaka – Vrisochori. By bus from Ioannina, bus station Ioannina (45 Georgiou Papandreou Avenue) tel.: +30 6510 26 286.
