Улица Эрму

Что такое “Эрму”? Невский проспект, Арбат и бог еще знает что. Именно сюда ломятся по выходным шумной стаей всевозможные ребята и девчата из пригородов. Макдональдс. Столица.

Маленький совет: если собьете вдруг в шопинговом угаре кружечку смелочью какой-нибудь пиликающей унылые мелодии цыганской девочки - лучше не встречаться с ней взглядом - может сглазить!

И еще: принято считать, что Эрму это отрезок между площадью Синдагма и Монастираки, но это не так! Она гораздо длиннее. И интереснее. Хотя торговцы по-английски уже и не очень говорят. Зато покупки становятся в разы уникальней.

One of the most famous commercial streets in Athens, the Ermou is considered as the paradise of shopping. Just a breath away from the metro station Syntagma, it is the meeting point of the shopaholics, as a variety of commercial shops with the biggest brands of the planet frame this vivid pedestrian. 

 

Actually, that was the plan from the beginning. And the beginning is dated back in 1833, when the architects Kleanthis and Subert, who were assigned to replott the city of Athens after the liberation, had envisaged the construction of a street that would become the center of consumerism. This street was indeed born and it was named Ermou, after Ermis, the God of commercial. 

 

So many decades after and despite the economical crisis, the Athenians still gather in the Ermou Street to honor the Ancient God, indulging in their favorite sport: the shopping. Or at least, the window shopping.
