Арахова
Одно из популярных зимних направлений в Греции - деревня Арахова. Находится она у южного склона горы Парнас в Беотии на высоте почти тысячи метров над уровнем моря. Совсем неподалеку от нее, в десяти километрах, расположен древний город Дельфы, который в древности считался ни больше, ни меньше - центром мира. Древние поселения в этой области начали образовываться еще в 12 веке до н.э.. В западной части села располагался древний город Анемория, от которого до сих пор сохранилось несколько руин. Само же село Арахова было построено примерно в 1300 году во времена французского господства. Во время греческой революции 1821 года жители деревни приняли непосредственное участие. А в 1826 году состоялась знаменитая битва при Арахова, которая длилась шесть дней. Тогда греческие войска под командованием Георгиоса Карайскакиса нанесли серьезный урон турецкой армии. Сразу же после завершения победоносного сражения Карайскакису был установлен памятник, стоящий над 300 камнями, по числу убитых турецких солдат. Что же касается храма Святого Георгия, возле которого происходила та битва - он был он был объявлен историческим памятником. Окончательно Арахова было освобождено лишь в 1828 году.
В наши дни - это традиционная деревня с красивыми каменными домами, отелями, ресторанами и барами. А еще одна точка притяжения неподалеку от Арахова - горнолыжный центр Парнас. Поэтому именно в этой деревне останавливаются многочисленные любители горнолыжного спорта.

Arachova
The most cosmopolitan winter destination in Greece is perched on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassos, in the prefecture of Boeotia, at an altitude of 968 meters. The beautiful traditional architecture, the nearby ski center of Parnassus, the ancient site of Delphi which is just a breath away (10,7 km) and the proximity to Athens are some of the reasons that make Arachova so popular. The region was known since the antiquity and is full of ancient settlements dating back to 1200 BC. On the west side of the village, there was once the major Homeric city Anemoreia, whose few ancient ruins are still visible today. Arachova was built around 1300 AD, during the Frankish domination and was developed rapidly. During the Revolution of 1821, the inhabitants of the village participated actively, while in November 1826, the great hero Georgios Karaiskakis confounded the Turkish forces opposite the church of St. George, in the famous Battle of Arachova which lasted six days. Right after the victorious end of the battle, the monument of Karaiskakis was erected in the precinct of the church, standing over 300 stones, the number of the heads of the dead Turks that he had commanded to get after his victory. As for the church of St. George, it has been declared an historic preserved monument (the present temple was built in 1833, but existed since 1676 in a different form). The village was liberated on November 2, 1828. Apart from the significant history though, Arachova is a beautiful traditional village with plenty of hotels and guesthouses, restaurants, cafes and bars, ideal both for weekend excursions and a long stay. Especially in winter it is overcrowded: Skiers, antiquity’s lovers, foodies, shoppers of the fine local products and young people who appreciate the entertainment offers in the region, everybody can find a good reason to visit Arachova.
