Aegean Airlines

Mykonos
Mykonos is the queen island of Cyclades, a legendary place, where the rich and famous of the planet prefer to spend luxurious holidays, with the Aegean Sea as background. This incredibly beautiful island with the fabulous beaches, the crystal clear waters and the scattered whitewashed windmills (the trademark of Mykonos) has something that enchants the visitors as soon as they step their feet on the port and capture their hearts forever. In mythology it was the island where Hercules killed giants. Nowadays is the island where everybody wants to go. The rich and famous, yes, but also the party goers who can find here the paradise of fun (dozens of bars, beach bars and big clubs play music day and night, with the most famous djs of the world as guests), the gays who can enjoy their lifestyle without anyone looks at them in a weird way, the food lovers (Mykonos is full of known gourmet restaurants, which offer a rich variety of excellent plates, cooked by renown chefs), the fashionists (the picturesque cobblestone streets of the island are framed by shops with the biggest firms of the planet) and the people who want  to see the rich and famous face to face. The hype with Mykonos began in the decade of 1960, when members of the greek and the international jet set discovered this paradise. The rumor was spread from mouth and mouth and soon, more and more people started to visit the island. Today, many celebrities (actors, politicians, designers, editors, industrialists, you name it...) have built luxurious summer houses in Mykonos, always with respect to the singular Cycladic architectural style.

If you think though that you will need a fortune in order to spend your holidays in Mykonos, think again. Next to the luxurious hotels you will also find money for value pensions and rooms to let. Next to the glossy expensive restaurants you will acalso find picturesque little taverns which offer fresh sea food and specialties from the Mykonian kitchen in cool prices. The Mykonians are people who love the tourists and they are famous for their hospitality whether you are rich or not.

The beaches of the island are also famous: Paradise and Super Paradise are the most cosmpolitan beaches of Mykonos, ideal for the jet setters and the party goers. Elia, Psarrou, Kalo Livadi and Agia Anna are also crowded, but more quiet. Agios Sostis, Lia and Kapari offer more tranqility. The most lonely swimmers however prefer the beaches Fragkia, Mersini and Fokos. Wherever you go, though, it will be magic.
In the breaks between the beaches and the clubs, you can also visit the other sights of Mykonos. You can go to the museums: the Archaeological Museum next to the port, the Folklore Museum near the Castle, the Farmer Museum in Epano Mili and the Aegean Maritime Museum in Tria Pigadia. You can have a coffee and drink, or just a walk in Little Venice, the most picturesque and beautiful area of the Chora of Mykonos. You can visit some of the beautiful 70 churches of the island. You can take a daily cruise to Delos, which is just a breath away and was a holy island in antiquity. And if you are lucky, you can also see Petros, the Pelican, which is the mascot of Myconos.

How to get there: By ship from Piraeus and Rafina ports. Mykonos is also linked by ship with many Greek islands. By air, served by Olympic Air (tel.: +30 22890 22 237) and Aegean Airlines (+30 22890 2289028720-7). The State Airport of Mykonos is also linked with the aiports of London, Manchester, Munich, Kolonia, Milano, Paris, Vienna and Instanbul.
