Метсово

Городов, претендующих на звание красивейшего в Греции немало, и городок Метсово в Эпире как минимум один из них. Расположился он в Пиндах - горах на севере Греции в Эпире - между Яниной и Метеорами. Именно здесь делаются знаменитые греческие сыры Метсовоне и Метсовела и находятся виноградники Катоги (известное греческое вино), принадлежащие  семье Аверофф. Одним словом, место для гурманов. Но наиболее известен Метсово как горнолыжный курорт - все думают, что в Греции нету снега - но это не так. Также город известен как крупнейший центр валахов в Греции - древнего народа, который считается предками всего населения Балкан и Карпат в средневековье, а также  всего романского, романоязычного или романизированного населения Европы. А еще - в городе Метсово прятал с братьями свою добычу дух Арахтос.

Metsovo is considered one of the most picturesque villages in Greece. It is perched on the mount Pindos, at an altitude of 1200 m., in a stunning, full of greenery landscape. Despite the rapid growth of the tourism in the recent years, it has not lost its traditional character. Being the birthplace of some of the most important Greek Benefactors, Metsovo is famous for its great cultural development. You will admire its museums, the stone mansions, the monasteries, twenty traditional fountains and its beautiful cobbled streets which are ideal for walk. It is also famous for its local cheeses (Metsovone and Metsovela) and winemaking industries, including the Katogi vineyard of the Averoff family. Metsovo is a popular winter destination and a ski resort, but do not miss the chance to visit it also throughout the year.

 

How to get there: By car from Athens (distance 410 km) via Α/Δ ΠΑΘΕ/E75/Α1, from Ioannina (distance 49,7 km) via Egnatia Odos/E90/A2. By bus, Athens-Trikala connecting to Metsovo, Athens Bus Station, 6 Rikaki Str/260 Liossion Avenue, Athens, tel.: +30 210 8311434.
