Монастырь Георгия Карайскакиса
Женский монастырь Святого Георгия Карайскакиса расположился у горы Южный Пиндус в номе Кардица, на юго-востоке от города Музаки в Фессалии. Это прямо над деревней Мавромати, на высоте 530 метров над уровнем моря. Он был построен в XII веке, но в последствии неоднократно разрушался, и в 1590 году был фактически выстроен заново. Своим именем он обязан Георгиосу Карайскакису - герою греческой революции 1821 года.Он родился в пещере, как раз неподалеку от монастыря. Во времена османского владычества монастырь выполнял еще и функцию школы, где по ночам дети могли изучать греческий язык. В настоящее время он действующий, а среди монашек есть представители разных национальностей - в том числе и из России. Последний факт говорит о том, что русских туристов тут ждут особенно.

Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Karaiskakis
The monastery is situated at an altitude of 530m on the mountain of South Pindos, above the village Mavrommati (which belongs to the prefecture of Karditsa) and southeast of the town of Mouzaki. It took the name “Karaiskakis” from the great hero of the Greek revolution of 1821, Georgios Karaiskakis, who was born in a cave close to the monastery. Built in the 12th century, it was completely destroyed by fire during the Frankish period and it was rebuilt in 1590. The church of the monastery is a very small but beauteous temple Athonite type, aisled, vaulted, without a dome, in the position of which there is a hemisphere with the hagiography of Almighty. It is dedicated to Saint George. The iconostasis is carved, inlaid, with two rows of icons. At the time of Ottoman rule, the monastery operated also as a school. The very polite nuns of the Monastery derive from many parts of the world, Russia among them.
