Дромеас (бегун)

Одна из самых известных и противоречивых скульптур в Афинах, была создана греческим скульптором Костасом Варотсосом в 1988 году. Дромеас был полностью изготовлен из темно-зеленого стекла в честь бегуна Стироса Луиса, первого победителя современного олимпийского марафона.

 

Изначально скульптура была установлена на площади Омония, но впоследствии была перенесена и установлена перед гостиницей “Хилтон” на Вассилисис Софияс Авеню из-за строительства метро.

It is one of the most famous and controversial statues in Athens. The renowned Runner was made in 1988 and is a piece of outdoor contemporary art. The sculptor Costas Varotsos used tons of green glass to create an illusion of a runner, which seems to “change” depending on the position of the sun and the night lights. It was originally placed in Omonoia square, where it remained until the start of the construction works of the metro. Now the Runner is permanently placed in the Square Great School of the Nation, in front of the hotel Hilton, making its own statement of art. You may love it, you may hate it, but there is no way to ignore it. And that is what the art is all about.
