Официальные выходные
Большинство греческих официальных праздников, считающихся выходными днями, имеют религиозный характер. Поскольку церковные праздники, как известно, часто не имеют фиксированной календарной даты, то и выходные могут быть ´плавающимиª. Но не все.
1 января - Новый год. Этот день также отмечается как День Святого Василия, поэтому новогодний пирог называется “Василопита”.
6 января – Крещение.
Чистый понедельник – первый день Великого поста (плавающая дата).
25 марта - День независимости, годовщина провозглашения независимости от Османской империи в 1821 году.
Страстная пятница (пятый день Страстной недели, плавающая дата). В этот день никто не работает до 13:00.
Светлое Воскресенье и Светлый Понедельник – первые два дня Светлой (Святой) недели – сразу после Пасхи (плавающая дата).
1 мая - День труда.
День Святой Троицы (Пятидесятница) – воскресенье на 50-й день после Пасхи (плавающая дата).
Духов день (День Святого Духа) – понедельник, на следующий день после Пятидесятницы (плавающая дата).
15 августа – Успение Пресвятой Богородицы.
28 октября - День Охи (´охиª, по-гречески, означает “нет”), годовщина отказа от итальянского ультиматума в 1940 году.
25 и 26 декабря - Рождество.
The official holidays in Greece
The Greeks love holidays and feasts (and who doesn’t?). In the Greek calendar you will find several dates when Greeks get officially day off from their jobs, having the opportunity to sleep a little longer, spend time with families and friends, have fun under custom of each day or escape for a while from their everyday life making short trips. Those days are the following:
January 1st: New Year΄s Day
January 6th: Epiphany
Clean Monday: The first day of Lent (moveable feast, Easter -41 days)
March 25th: Independence day (National holiday). Anniversary of the declaration of the Greek war of Independence from the Ottoman Empire 1821. Annunciation.
Good Friday: The Crucifixion of Christ (moveable feast, Easter -2 days) - Shops open at 13:00

May 1st: Labor Day
Pentecost (Easter +49 days)
Holy Spirit Monday: The celebration of the Holy Spirit (moveable feast, Easter +50 days)
August 15th: Dormition of the Holy Virgin (Panayia)
October 28th: Anniversary of No (National holiday). Celebration of the Greek refusal to the Italian ultimatum of 1940.
December 25th: Christmas
December 26th: Second day of Christmas.
