Неа Эпидаврос

Неа Эпидаврос (Новый Эпидавр) - это живописная деревня в 44 километрах от Нафплиона, первой столицы Греции, а также столицы нома Арголида, принадлежащего административному округу Пелопоннес.  В древние времена эта деревня была частью Эпидавра, но теперь стала самостоятельной административной единицей. Тут появились три монастыря, весьма выдающаяся византийская крепость, а также порядка двадцати церквей с прилегающей к ним территорией - все они составили во время византийского периода своего рода “ядро” Эпидавра. Сейчас же это тихое, уютное  место место с узкими улочками и традиционными живописными сельскими домами. А площадь Эфносилефсис знаменита тем, что именно здесь происходили первые законодательные собрания независимого греческого государства на стыке 1921 и 1822 года. Также рядом расположены довольно неплохие галечные пляжи.

На машине можно добраться по национальной автостраде (дорога платная) до Коринфа, после чего следует выбрать направление Напфлион. Также добраться можно автобусом. Автовокзал Кифисью. На поезде нужно ехать по линии ведущей из аэропорта, если едете из города - то нужно сесть на станции Neratziotissa, одноименная станция метро находится на линии 1 (зеленая) афинского метро.

Nea Epidaurus is a very beautiful village of the prefecture Argolida, in Peloponnese. This place is blessed with natural beauty.  On the rocky slopes where it is built, the ruins of a Venetian castle are scattered gazing the picturesque village from above, while the base of the slope forms the canyon Vothila, which is one of the most beautiful in Greece. A pine forest embraces Nea Epidaurus from the other side, and the sea washes the feet of the last houses of the village, forming two natural bays (one of them is the port of the region, used mainly as a yachting marina). The pretty narrow streets are framed by picturesque houses with traditional rural architecture, while three monasteries and twenty churches are among the attractions of the village, like the chapel of Saint John, built in 1710, which is located in the area of the half-ruined castle. In ancient times the village was part of Epidaurus. Its older name was Piada. This was the place where the “Doorposts of the Nation” convened the A’ National Assembly of the liberated Greeks, in December 20, 1821, right after the first victories of the Greeks at the outbreak of the Revolution. In 1822, the members of the A’ National Assembly renamed Piada in Nea Epidaurus, honorably, as the rebirth of Ancient Epidaurus. The A’ Ethnosynelefsis (which means A’ National Assembly in Greek) square in the village is always there to remind us this great historical event.

How to get there: By car: From Athens (distance 117 km) via Olympia Odos/A8/E94. From Corinth (distance 49,3 km) via Provincial Road Corinth - Epidaurus and National Road Isthmus of Ancient Epidaurus. From Nafplio (distance 39 km) via Asklepios avenue and Provincial Road Ligurio - Nea Epidaurus. By bus: From Athens to Nafplio and from Nafplio to Nea Epidaurus.
